Jucifer - If Thine Enemy Hunger

20+ downloads and no comments? Hey, maybe if some if you cunts showed a little appreciation I might post here more often.

Whatever I only post here when I'm drunk anyway.

Year: 2006

this is Jucifer. I hear they got the band title from a nickname they created for OJ Simpson during his (early 90s) trials. the band gets shit for not sounding like that shitty tech-grind band holy child of relapse records phallic carnage. who cares, relapse are a bunch of fascist cock suckers who treat their bands like sub-humans. we could probably gauge how much they care about this band (or money) by how quick this upload gets squashed. whatever...fuck it (eat shit (relapse)):

Minutemen - KFPK Acoustic Jam

Year: 1983

Here's a cool bootleg; this is a live set of the Minutemen playing live on KFPK back in '83. Not as stellar as the Acoustic set on 'We Jam Econo', but still pretty killer:

Minutemen - KFPK Acoustic Jam

Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff

Year: 1988
Northwestern yesteryear grimy-garage-rock 101, eh? This EP debuted in the year of my birth (MCMLXXXVIII) and hasn't lost one bit of its bite in the 21 years since. This is the kind of shit that completely marred the definition of rock--dethroned the bullshit androgynoid cookie-cutter groups from the popular musicspace and paved the way for the more righteous bands stewing in the underground (and eventually more stupid bullshit pop bands that are on the radio now). You want grunge? TAD and this:

Mount Shasta - Who's The Hottie

Label: Skin Graft
Year: 1995

I do believe this was a requested item as well. If not, oh well, it's still a corker of an album, and one I trust you have and hold dear, or will soon make marital relations with. Just, close the door before you do alright? I mean, it's the decent thing to do.
Per chance you haven't had the pleasure of Mount Shasta's company? Well, expect to be sweetened up with some deep bass pummels, before she slices across your chest with noisy riffs, and rounds into home base with some of the nastiest lyrics this side of Milkmine. Oh, she's an easy lover I tell you. Actually, Billy Ocean told me first, but now I'm telling you. That's almost as good.
Did I mention to wear a condom? You should protect yourself.

New Brutalism - 1999-2001: A Diagram Without Scale Or Dimension/Structural Gymnastics/+1

Label: The Great Vitamin Mystery
Year: 2002

By request. please do listen up for the greatest Midwestern noise rock record of the early 1990's not actually performed, recorded, or released by a Midwestern noise rock band in the early 1990's. Hey everybody, it's New Brutalism from....Knoxville, Tennessee? Fuck yeah! New Brutalism, from motherfucking Knox-vegas!
This record is the compilation of two older 12"s the band put out, but that had since gone out of print (plus one unreleased track). I'm not sure how many waves they have made outside of the South, but can assure you they aren't making that many waves here in the South, and that's puzzling. It's puzzling because this band hand crafts their own indestructible aluminum instruments in a pursuit for the purest tones and sounds available. And then, with those instruments they play homage to the Touch and Go heyday of wiry, twitching, plodding, beautiful noise rock. Think, Tar, Big Black, Arcwelder, and the like. Big dogs you know? A maybe, just maybe it's because they got a couple of real nobodies named Bob Weston and Steve Albini to record these records, I don't know, but they sound fucking tits. Big, big sound, thudding, spacious drums, and attacking guitars slicing through. It really does take you back to an older style. Nice.
All that being said, New Brutalism aren't just a "retro revival" novelty, they are genuine fans of a genre and are using their obviously encyclopedic knowledge of that genre to make new, exciting versions of those old sounds. Fucking great stuff. I wish they'd get off their asses and play some shows. I even asked them to play in Atlanta with my old band once and they said, "sure, let me get back to you"....story of my life, I never heard back.

Unwound - Repetition

Label: Kill Rock Stars
Year: 1996

By request, here's Unwound's fifth album, he document of their "mid period", before they really started tweaking their sound and veering further away from punk and indie rock. It's also another challenge for me to come up with new ways to say "great", "awesome", "must have", etc. Frankly I'm pooped.
Instead, I'll add to the running Melvins dialogue that seems to be taking over this very blog.
As you may recall, I mentioned that I would be attended a Melvins show last night, and was hoping aloud that the band would treat us with one of their legendary, pummeling sets, as opposed to their also legendary ear-fucking bore-fests. Well, I'm happy to report that the band came through and completely fucking slayed. Melted my face off, they did! Hot shit, they were killing it last night. This was my first time catching the "Big Business" version of Melvins, and I got to hand it to them, they were in top form. Especially the dueling drums, those were particularly fantastic, and well executed (unlike say...oh I don't know...Kylesa...what the fuck Kylesa, do you really need two dudes playing the exact same "tribal" beat slightly out of time with the other? seriously, it adds nothing to your sound except to muddy it up. stop Kylesa, you're a great band, don't blow it with that ghetto-ass Allman Brothers doubling drumming). Seeing them play actually made me want to start a band again and rip off more of their riffs for my own nefarious purposes.
Also, Down played, and I feel obligated to inform you that they also slayed with extreme prejudice last night. I don't give a fuck how corny you think Phil Anselmo is, or how Pepper Keenan ruined C.O.C., or how rough of a drummer Jimmy Bower is, or even how fat Kirk from Crowbar is. I just don't care. Down is a great heavy metal band who know how to deliver the metal goods, and I appreciated how hard they went for it to a 3/4 full venue. Kudos Down. Well played.

pissed jeans - king of jeans

released 2009

ah...the band that kicked off the great tight and shiny debate of '08

but with this album...they seemed to have found their way out of the sweaty stink of the jesus lizard's shadow (though bits and pieces left with them...because when something like that touches you...it touches you) and moved onto seattle circa the late 80's/early 90's

they come off sounding like u-men vocalist john bigley fronting mudhoney...with a hint of nirvana's IN UTERO and some early melvins

and maybe it's not just coincidence that this is their first (correction: second) album for sub pop...perhaps the label is trying recapture their "i'm a loser" aesthetic (the label is a long way from what they used to be...as it seems like they traded in their torn pants/t-shirt fresh from the floor/combat boots look for scarves/high school sports team shirts/clove cigarettes/and tight pants)

so what you need to do is put down that messenger bag...

bloarzeyd - delirious insane ventilator of bloarzeyd

released 2006

seeing as how their NEW EP went over kinda big around these parts (and can be found here)...you now get their very first album

if you go over into the forum...you can download their BLOMAARDZOENYNDA 7" (which is made up of 2 madonna covers)...and you will have completed their discography (thus far)

and for those of you that are too lazy to go and read the review for their NEW EP to find out what they sound like...well...if you dig the bands alabama and the oak ridge boys...you'll find this to be a kick you in the crotch and spit on your neck fantastic time

WEEEEEDAWGY!

melvins - salad of a thousand delights

released 1992

with all of the hoopla surrounding the melvins on this blog as of late...i'm starting to think they need to have their own section on the forum

and now i'm gonna take out the soapbox again and put in my 2 cents...and unless you'd read my rant back in the SINGLES 1-12 post...this will all be new to you folks (though a slightly shortened version):

i've only managed to see the melvins live once...back in 1998 when they were part of the ozzfest...they played the second stage in front of a bunch of nu metal fans...and what you think happened did...during the duration of their half hour set they were met with a constant "get the fuck off the stage! you fucking suck!" and whatever other monosyllabic phrases they could muster...and during their time on stage they managed to play one song (dragging the already epic sounding "boris" out and making it more epic-er) and take the already at a level 10 of pissed off-ed-ness and raised it to 20 (and i will agree with "mars"...it's still one of the most punk rock things i've ever seen)...i'm pretty sure i was the only one there watching the whole thing with a smile on my face

i also met the band once at a truck stop in peru,il (sapp bros...for those that are curious)...some friends and i were sitting in the adjoining burger king when i pointed out a guy walking across the parking lot with hair like buzz's...turns out it wasn't just a guy with hair like buzz...it was buzz...so the friends i was with and i went over and talked to them (mostly to buzz and dale...their bass player at the time...mark deutrom...just stood off to the side and looked as if he was talking to himself)...they were on their way to canada to play with the band skeleton key...i remember buzz asking me if i'd seen the compilation of police chases from the tv show cops he'd picked up off a shelf...i said "no"...he said "you really need to. it's awesome"...and then they asked us if we had any money...i managed to get a copy of nirvana's BLEACH signed (dale just signed his name...buzz signed "king buzzo likes kurdt cobain"...mark didn't sign it)...and then they all piled into their van and drove away

and though i said that they were pretty boring nowadays...i believe that they play the music for themselves...and don't really care what anyone has to say about it...and i think they've earned that right in their 27 years of existence

the melvins are the kind of band that'll call it quits when all of the members eventually die off (or maybe they'll have all of their heads cryogenically frozen ala futurama)

and now...SALAD OF A THOUSAND DELIGHTS

"There is no band that changed my perspective of music of music like the Melvins. I'm not joking. I think that they're the future of music... and the present and the past."
dave grohl and kurt cobain (from the back of the box)

and with that being said...i would say this: dave grohl...how can you explain the foo fighters then?

this was a show that took place in olympia,wa at a place called the north shore surf club on may 16 1991

and if you know anything about a melvins gig (well...back then anyway)...then you know what you're going to see here (and that being dale crover playing the drums in what looks like a red speedo...a very sweaty king buzzo...and joe preston playing on a stage the size of a kitchen table surrounded by "fans"...aka "people that don't know when to take the hint that they're not wanted on stage")

1 - antitoxidote
2 - euthanasia
3 - zodiac
4 - oven
5 - if i had an exorcism
6 - boris
7 - kool legged
8 - wispy
9 - it's shoved
10 - anaconda
11 - we reach
12 - hog leg

Requests and Bric-A-Brac

There have been a few requests piling up over recent days, so just wanted to let folks know that they will be filled very soon. I have and will post the following in the next couple of days:
Unwound - Repetition
Arcwelder - Pull (re-up)
New Brutalism - 1999-2001

Also, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who is taking the time to add their two cents in the comments sections and on the message board. I don't think anyone writing on this blog would qualify as a "music expert" (we just play them on the internet), so when you have corrections, additional information, or general stories to share about the posts, that is much appreciated. And for those people posting links to other albums and things, that's great too, I'm glad to see people sharing. Keep it up.

And remember how I called Buzz Osbourne a "douche" the other day? Yeah? Well, I'm off to see the Melvins open up for Down tonight. Maybe they will prove me wrong, and blow me away like I know they're capable of doing, or maybe they will insist on being "clever" and alienating their audience with some tedious doom/noise "experiment". Let's hope for the former. Weedeater is playing too, so at least I can expect some minor hearing loss come tomorrow morning.
