Smile - Resin 7"

Label: Headhunter
Year: 1994

Smile was an exciting proposition to 20 year old Gray when they first started, because it was made up of 2/3 of the most excellent hardcore band Headfirst, and 1/3 of the most excellent stoner rock powerhouse Fu Manchu (Scott Reeder). So imagine my surprise when the first song begins sounding like a Hayden outtake (Canadian folk-rock name drop!). I was all, "huh?". And then, I was like, "nuh'uh, what the?". I mean, shit got intense.
Well, stick with it, and you will be rewarded with what sounds like some lost Nirvana tracks from 1989 or something, right down to the vocals. Das is good. Fuzzy grunge style good.
Smile stuck it out for awhile but after this record and two more 7"s I lost interest somewhere. I think you might like this one if you never heard it before.

Winzip is giving some error message about syntax or something. The apple .dsstore file is throwing it off or something. The mac machine is offline so can't test it on there.

i think i have a smile 7" that might have come out before this? i think at the time it was just a kevin murphy one man band type of deal with a drum machine. i always like it, but the drum machine was pretty casio styled. its the only thing i ever heard of them. i might give this a shot. or i might not. after all, i have art to figure out.

I have the 'Staring At The Sun' 7" and the 'Maquee' CD, and I love 'em both. I wasn't keen on the later stuff though, 'Masterlocks', was it? On Revelation? Didn't grab me.

pardon moi but i think that scott reeder wasnt a fu manchu member.he was an Obsessed member then a Kyuss member(by the way Kyuss ROOOOOOOCKS!!)

There are two Scott Reeders, one plays bass and was in Kyuss, the other plays drums and was in Fu Manchu (and Smile). It's easy to confuse the two, but they (and I'm sure their mothers) would appreciate it if you would take the time to differentiate them.

Yes, just like the 2 Joe Prestons!! One played drums in These Arms Are Snakes and the other is the beardy dude from Thrones/Earth/Melvins/Harvey Milk. I always thought both Scotts and Joes should form a band together.

@proven hollow - there are a couple of other Smile 7"es besides this one and they had a track on one of the Bus comps too.

the kevin murphy track with the drum machine that you're thinking of is credited to a band called Beatless, but that's just the name of the studio project. that track was later turned into a Farside song, kevin was never in Smile. maybe you're getting confused because both the Beatless tracks and a Smile track are on one of the Bus comps.
