Crass Commercialism

What the fuck is with certain words being highlighted, and then taking you to ads? Are we that hard up for money? Shit man, I'm all about economic downturns and shit, but this seems a bit much.

Yes sir, some of us indeed are that hard up for money... But here's the deal... the infolinks (the highlighted ad links) are just being run as trial right now to see if its manageable and worth the addition to the blog. You don't have to click on them.. however if you do hover on them, a ad will pop up. But even if you do just click on them and close em.. we make money. So really its not a total inconvenience... but I get where your coming from. Like I said.. we're doing a trial run with it... but so far in the last 2 days we've made about a $1... So we will see how it goes the rest of the week.

You guys can obviously run your blog how ever you want, but it seems a little sketchy to make money off of posting other people's music for people to download for free.

Actually we don't make any money for posting other people's music or for promoting any of the bands you see on here. Any advertising placed on the blog is strictly textual content advertising. But since the blog is something quite a few people spend many hours involved in to provide free promotion, sampling, and for your listening pleasure, we are simply trying to utilize online tools to assist us in throwing a few bones in on our internet bill so that we can continue to do what we love and hopefully throw a few towards our loyal contributors. As I said...its a trial run with the infolinks advertising, it most likely won't last the rest of the week, but it was something we wanted to explore.

Big fan of the blog (really!), but I can't stand the hypocrisy of telling people "we just promote unknown bands", while at the same time making available music of bands that most certainly did not ask to be "featured" here. I rather have an honest pirate than someone who tells me about textual content advertising and how that is not related to the music. Don't shit yourself, most people don't come here for the witty reviews, but for the free music. Just saying.

well...we know why you're here

it's obvious that you just had a fight with your parents...i know...30 is too old for a babysitter...but when you "accidentally" urinate on the carpet a few times...and you get caught ransacking your parents room for "socks"...and everything else they've bothered you with while you're trying to watch your stories...it's probably a good idea to have the 13 year old neighbor girl watch over you

or maybe you're just scared by wit..and you soak your pants every time a comedian that's not larry the cable guy comes on the tv

who knows

and yes...there's probably a percentage of folks that come here for the free music...but there are also a percentage of people that come here for the words

we cater to both camps

as for the advertising and the colorful words (both literal and the fancy book learnin' words)...i expected there to be a backlash with this experiment...and yes...i expect there to be more angry villagers showing up with torches and pitchforks

i mean...if it's going to be that much of a problem for some folks...it can all be removed

so...you can now go back to watching entourage with that warm feeling of "hey man...i got stuff to say...and dammit...i'm gonna git 'er done!"

bravo,sir

I'd like to clarify: No where did I mention "we promote unknown bands". We promote artists, albums, videos and anything else that we think people might want to know. Yes, most of the artists did not ask for us to feature them here, but we also state boldly if they don't want their stuff on here, we will gladly remove it immediately. Also, I never said the advertising isn't related to the music, however to clarify it better: The advertising doesn't promote us asking for money for access to the downloads or charging for artists media. So in essence the advertising has nothing to do with the downloadable content. However, yes it does have something to do with the music, based on the fact that the advertising uses key words in each post, which happens to be a review or something music related. I'll agree that most people come here for the music, although we hope you take something from the reviews as well.

I like your blog, but I agree with the commenter above; don't claim to be "promoting" bands. That's b-to-the-s. I'm one of this blog's viewers who occasionally downloads stuff, and sometimes I like to read the text. The advertising is definitely annoying. If it were a matter of make-or-break survival, I say go for it. Otherwise, it's probably not worth soiling an otherwise really good blog with that crap.
