And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Peel Session - 04-30-02

Label: Bootleg
Year: 2002

Seems like a lot of dudes cooler than I'll ever be, think this band stinks. Or at least think the dudes in the band stink. Or something stinks, somewhere, could be me. For real, it could be me. I made a sizzling pot of chili for dinner tonight which my wife commented "tasted a lot like beer" then adding, "the kids should sleep well tonight". The alcohol cooks out though right, so it's not like it's child abuse or anything.
Chili is great, I could eat that shit morning, noon, and night. Beans, onions, peppers, tomatoes, beer, ground turkey, spices, cheese, sour cream, scallions, cilantro, garlic...fuck. That's what life is all about, eating chili you know? And I mean that both literally and metaphorically, as most of my missives work on two levels. Or at least they're bi-level. Maybe I mean split level instead.
What does that have to do with this? And (started a sentence with "and", so what?) what does chili have to do with And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead?
That's for you to figure out.
I'm hungry.

Trail Of Dead, I dunno.

'Source Tags And Codes' is one my favourite albums - so I'll definitely give this Peel session a listen.

After 'Source Tags...', though, they kind of lost the plot. Their last 3 records have been the kind of bloated prog douchebaggery that can get a band a bad name. And they did.

By the by, that sounds like some wicked chili you whipped up there.

You are correct on two counts:
1. This band has "lost it's way" so to speak in recent years and their last couple records have not been very interesting. I should have acknowledged that in the original post, but, that being said, these are older songs, and still carry the bombastyou are hoping to hear from these guys.
2. The chili was fantastic. I have leftovers today, which points out another weapon in chili's formidable aresenal, it serves well the next day.

i think i'm one of the few people on this planet that thinks worlds apart is a better record than source tags.

Never having it...I think Gray's chili is better than Worlds Apart.

When I was living in Austin during the 1996 Olympics, these guys and The Primadonnas were my favorite local bands. Their original demo is great - songs off their first Trance Syndicate record but way more 4-track style. It was always the drummer and guitarist switching off instruments, with a third guy thrown in. They would destroy every venue they played and their instruments, making it either an awesome show of laughable depending on the night. When they became a "real" band, it definitely lost some of the magic. I would love to find that demo if it's out there somewhere.
