If you follow this blog at all, or have an similar musical disposition as we do, then I can only tell you to run, not walk, to download this compilation. It is, how you say, e-s-s-e-n-t-i-a-l. Seriously. No shit.
You know what, how about I just give you the lineup of bands on this thing? How about that?
Jawbreaker
Slug
Engine Kid
Big Damn Crazy Weight
Godheadsilo
Lifelikeweeds
Johnboy
Cherubs
Steel Pole Bathtub
Distorted Pony
Grifters
Unwound
Beekeeper
Soul-Junk
Ring a bell? Any of those bands seem familiar to you? As in, from the pages of this website?
It seems like there were a couple of compilations to come out around this era, and they really were "important" somehow. Important like you don't see all that often anymore. Like, when was the last time you got stoked on a compilation the way you were stoked on "Dope, Guns, and Fucking In The Streets"? I can't think of anything off the top of my head in recent years. This is a great collection of bands, doing strong material here, not just throw-aways...even the Cherubs covering Bow Wow Wow is a must-have. Deep cuts dawg! Deep cuts.

I got excited for a minute thinking the Beekeeper track might be something from the pre-Macha band of that name, but it sounds more likely to be from Karla Schickele's other band (of Ida fame).
I saw the pre-Macha Beekeeper play a few times in Athens, GA back in the day. Seeing them was akin to a spiritual experience. I don't know of any recordings from them other than one track on a Kindercore comp, though. It would be amazing to track down some basement recordings from that group...
Anyway, this is a solid comp nonetheless.
I love what your doing. Keep posting the good stuff.
THANKS for the unknown Unwound track, as well as the completely unknown Lifelikeweeds, from the Great White North. I've already tracked down one 45. Is there anything else?
thank you so much! thank you!
Genial! thank you for this great compilation! I finally found the title of Cherubs.
For such heavy hitters on this comp, it was a huge disappointment. Even the Unwound song is one of my least favorite.
ok, I need to find a compilation that I bought back in 92-93 i think. I found it in Fargo,ND of all places. It had a slew of good bands (unsane, cop shoot cop, pain teens, scraping foetus off the wall, steel pole bathtub,etc...) aghhhhhhhhhh need to find this cd. I had to sell it for rent money when i was a poor mpls slacker.
