Craw - Lost Nation Road

Year: 1994
Label: Choke Inc.

Seems like folks enjoyed the previous Craw post (it currently holds the record for most downloads for anything I've posted on here), so why not offer up their second album? Great idea! Jeez Gray, you're good looking and smart, that's a lethal combo, I bet the ladies can't keep their hands off.
This record veers off into crazy-land a little further than the Craw lp, and the band sounds even stranger than before. The vocals are genuinely disturbing in certain passages, and the lyrics seem to be cribbed from the Unabomber manifesto. Musically, they eschew some of the heaviness for wilder dynamics, but rest assured, it's still a heavy record. It will still take you by the back of the head and slam your face into the dashboard over and over and over again. It will still bum out most people in a dinner party type situation.
Do you really think I'm that good looking? Wow.

Heavily recommended! Harder to get into than the first album, but tends to emerge as many peoples' fave of the four albums they've put out. "As long as the turnpike" is still a favourite. I agree with Gray's observations on the lyrics...there's a real feeling going on here with the vocals, which are at first listen, impossible to put to the music rhythm-wise. The thing about Craw's first three albums is the originality; you can't easily put them in a genre, or say "sounds like.." Much more so than bands like Isis, or even Neurosis. Very rewarding if you've got the patience. I'm still listening to these albums and I believe they came out early-mid nineties. Check this out if you want something moody to really chew on and not tire of easily.

i just tested the link and it worked for me. try it again, and if it's still fucked up let us know, i can repost it.

as for Map Monitor Surge, i have that record, but honestly, and it pains me to say this, it's not that good. i guess i will post it eventually. i'll need to dig it out first, which might take a little time (i'm a lazy man.).

Just listened it from beginning to end, and i found it much better than i remembered (still prefer Lost nation road though). maybe it would do the same for you...anyway, here it is, not the greatest quality but still:

i remember reading somewhere that joe got most of his lyrical ideas from listening to drunk homeless dudes ranting in the street
