nora / the dillinger escape plan - NJ
released: 1998
label: ferret music
truth be told: i don't really consider myself a nora fan. they just sound like every other "metalcore" band that came into fruition during the genre's heyday (mid 90s - early 00's). i'd gotten this split for the dillinger escape plan as it has the original (and better) version of the song "4th grade dropout" which was later redone re-released on the band's CALCULATING INFINITY album.
and that's all you really need to know about it.

Hi. I was the bass player in Nora for the first half of their existence and I’ve been following your blog for many years. I was going to defend my old band and say that we were actually really awesome. But eh, fuck it. Music is subjective.
Instead, let me recall another Nora / Dillinger collaboration of sorts.
About 6 years ago or so, Ben from Dillinger hit me up and told me that he was in the process of developing a children’s TV show. I've known Ben since before the Dillinger days, and I had written and illustrated a few children's books. So he asked me to come on board to be creative director and character development. I was enthusiastically down to do this.
The idea was a live action show with puppets, kids, music and guest stars. Kind of like Sesame Street, but with more of a Yo Gabba Gabba vibe. So I got to work and came up with a bunch of characters that went along with the general theme.
During one of our meetings, we’re taking about different show segments and Ben says that he had an idea for King Buzzo to host a science portion of the show. I was like, “Dude. Really? That would be amazing. Do you think he would do it?”
Ben said something to the effect of, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure he would be totally into it.” He said that if he couldn't do it for whatever reason, he'd ask someone else, possibly one of the guys from Mastodon.
Now, I've been a Melvins fan for quite some time and although I met quite a few musical folks during my tenure in Nora, King Buzzo was not one of them. My mind was kinda blown and I was pretty stoked.
Also, Juliette Lewis was interested in being part of the show in some capacity as well. Possibly as a voice for one of the puppets. I mean, it was just insane to me that I was a part of this.
Sadly, after a couple of months, the meetings started to fizzle out. My wife and I had a baby (and then another baby), Dillinger started writing a new album and that was basically the end.
So, yeah. In a perfect world, there would be a children's show out there from the mind of The Dillinger Escape Plan, with puppets and themes based on my art, with me as co-writer and one of the puppeteers (that part wasn't discussed, but it was my plan to weasel my way into the position), and King Buzzo teaching kids about science.
I thought you might enjoy hearing about that.
