Ed Hall - Permission To Rock...Denied
Label:
Year: 1996
It's been far too long since we've visited Austin, Texas circa the early 90's hasn't it? And it's definitely been too long since we've checked in with Ed Hall, the band dubbed the "heirs to the Butthole Surfers weird rock crown".
This collection of songs was their last, and was never officially released, but often bootlegged and shared amongst aficionados of unhinged, acid fried, noise punk. You like that kind of shit, right? Seems like you do, you dress like someone who would. I just figured that you did.
If it helps, you can tell your "cinema" friends (and aren't they just the worst?) that Ed Hall was hte band featured in the movie Slackers. People seem to love that movie (altough I find it tedious), so that could bridge the gap between a dirtbag like you, and a class act like them (or me).
DL
You mean Slacker, as in "wanna buy Madonna's Pap Smear?". Early 90s Austin was the place.
ReplyDeleteGrey, i have a question for a guy as prepared as you, someone able to give advice on everything (logo design, music production and so on) as you gave me in my band review. You must have a PhD degree or maybe better to be so cocky, cool and pretentious: do you think I should leave my current job to go to another that won three times salary? thank you, man. you are the best. your review was a shit. fuck off you and this blog. bye
ReplyDeleteYes, the movie is Slacker, not the plural "Slackers" as I erroneously listed. Just goes to show, I have no tolerance for independent cinema.
ReplyDeleteAs for Nacho:
Great question, I'm glad you asked. But firstly, you have overestimated my credentials, I may appear as pretentious as someone with post-graduate work under their belts, but I was actually forcibly removed from the all-girl's high school I attended, and have never earned so much as a GED, much less a college degree (I'm sure Spain does not issue GEDs, but in America it's the credential you can earn if you neglect and/or are too retarded to finish high school).
Back to your query though. I at first thought you were joking, I mean, what would possibly be the issue in leaving your current employ for one that pays in triplicate? What could be more important than that scratch? And then I began to wonder (aloud) if there could be something nefarious keeping you at your current place of work. Blackmail? Affair? Muuuuuuuuurder?
Look, if you've committed a crime just know you're in a safe place here. Hell, we've ALL broken multiple laws, there's no shame in those life choices. It happens. Shit gets hectic, and next thing you know, some fool has given you no other reasonable recourse but to choke him out, boost his credit cards, and burn his home to pile of rubble. It happens! Fuckers shouldn't be looking at you all funny and shit. It happens.
So, my advice is to quit your current job, take this new one contingent on a signing bonus, ditch your family, take that money and go lay low somewhere. Aren't you near Ibiza? Isn't there some desperate English tourist hag you could latch onto and create a new life in Suffolk somewhere? It's not that bad once you get used to the breakfast food, really. You should be golden for at least a year, and after that, nobody will even remember what happened. You can casually walk into your new job (that you never showed up for a year ago), take your desk, and proceed as if you'd been clocking in every day. Who's gonna know, right? And if anyone gives you an lip, or tries the stink-eye...well, I think you're prepared to do what you have to do...

ReplyDeleteSpain is a very underdeveloped country. we belong to the Third World. I myself do not know design a logo but won three times salary than you in my job as factory production engineer. fuck. music criticism is full of smarty people that knows all in every aspect of life and capable of give advice about everything although you didn´t finish high school. i deal with people in my job every day that they didn´t finish high school and they do what i say because i am the fucking boss and they shut their fucking mouths. The problem is when you ask for a review about the music you do in your spare time and you only get bullshit. i learned to design logos in my first job as engineer when i was 21, i learned it working. What´s your work experience? not think you're the right person to lecture me about anything. shut your fucking mouth.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who lives in a very VERY undeveloped country, writes uneducated reviews for pocket money, doesn't know shit about design, loves Ed Hall and fucking adores this blog, I just want to say: SGM, thank you for existing. Sincerely, Dirtbag
ReplyDeleteSpain is such an undeveloped country that every band that wants to be reviewed in the spanish music magazines HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. if you pay, they publish your band. integrity does not exist, only care about money. payola exists. It´s a fucking joke to read the words "punk" or "indie" in these magazines. Fortunately, I work on something else that has nothing to do with the fucking and rotten spanish music scene. And i know how to design a logo with the Microsoft Paint tool. And i´ve got paid for that, huhuhuhuhuhuhu
ReplyDeletea kiss for everyone. i love this blog.
I wish Nacho was my boss. It would make working at the Microsoft Paint factory so much more tolerable. Plus, we would have a bitchin' band that practiced every Wednesday after work, where we would eat tapas and work on our Big Country covers.
ReplyDeleteNacho, can I move in with you? Would you hire me?
you are welcome to Spain and my home whenever you want.
