A friend recently made an "East Bay Punx" reference, and reminded me of this band. Not that they are "punx" so to speak, more like "East Bay Pop Punx", but whatever. I hadn't listened to this record in yeeeeeeaaaaars. I recall this one, and maybe a Walt Mink album being about as deep into pop-punk as I could manage.

The East Bay/Gilman Street bands might have been poppier than most punk bands of the time, but they were certainly more harsh than the Fat Records pop punk bands of southern California. There was far more D.C. emo in their sound, and less fraternity dude date rape vibe.

I doubt that if you're hearing this for the first time it's going to do much for you, but if you used to be a fan, or maybe just pining for something besides J Church to fill your afternoon than this one might be a fun trip down memory lane. Some songs sound pretty dated, but some really do stand the test of time.

The members were in other bands like: Crimpshrine, The Skinflutes, Pinhead Gunpowder, Sawhorse, Uranium 9 Volt, The Influents, Fuel, Rummage Sale, Poultry Magic, Fifteen, Harvest Theory, Go Sailor, Onion Flavored Rings, St. James Infirmary, and Still Breaking Hearts.
