LIKE THE CHEST BURSTER SCENE IN ALIEN....
I HAVE TO GET IT OUT
LAST NIGHT (NO PUN INTENDED...YOU'LL UNDERSTAND SOONLY)...FOR SOME REASON I GOT THE URGE TO WATCH THE VIDEO FOR THE SONG "LAST NIGHT" BY THE STROKES
AND THEN I REMEMBERED WHY IT WAS I LIKED THIS BAND
THAT'S RIGHT...I DIG THIS BAND (WELL...MOSTLY THIS ALBUM)
AND THEN I REMEMBERED WHY I "BORROWED" IT FROM AN EX-GIRLFRIEND OF MINE BACK WHEN IT CAME OUT...YOU SEE...MANY MOONS AGO I WAS DATING A BARISTA THAT LIVED IN THE MOLINE,IL AREA...IT'S THE AGE OLD STORY...BOY MEETS GIRL online...GIRL COMES TO PICK UP BOY TO TAKE HIM BACK HOME WITH HER...BOY LIVES IN VAN PARKED IN FRONT OF HER PARENT'S HOUSE FOR ROUGHLY A MONTH...SOMEHOW THINGS MAGICALLY DON'T WORK OUT...BOY RETURNS HOME WITH "BORROWED" CDS (ACTUALLY...I HAD FULLY INTENDED TO SEND THEM BACK TO HER...BUT YOU KNOW HOW THINGS WORK OUT)
NOT ONLY WAS SHE JUST A MERE BARISTA...SHE HAD HER OWN SHOW ON COLLEGE RADIO...SO THAT WORKED OUT FOR ME AS WELL
ANYWAY...
I REMEMBERED WHY IT WAS THAT I DUG THE STROKES...THEY WOULD'VE FIT IN PERFECTLY AT CBGBS CIRCA THE SCENE IN THE LATE 70s EARLY 80s...I COULD SEE THEM PLAYING SHOWS WITH THE RAMONES AND BLONDIE
AND MAYBE THAT WAS ALL PART OF THEIR DEVIOUS PLAN TO GET INSIDE MY HEAD
AND IT WORKED
AND THAT'S WHY I'M YELLING
I LIKE THE STROKES (WELL...MOSTLY THIS ALBUM)
dude...worry not. its a great album.
ReplyDeleteCHILL OUT A LITTLE BIT... I think when all the hype and bullshit is forgotten it'll be remembered as a pretty damn good album. No need to punish yourself, unless you're into that sort of thing. I think you're spot on with the CBGBs thing... I remember thinking the same thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good record
ReplyDeleteI think one of the worst things journalists did in the name of hype was by directly comparing The Strokes to every great, inflential American rock band of the previous 30 year.
The Strokes are nowhere near The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Television, the Talking Heads, or Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (last one was specifically because of the Last Nite riff being ripped from American Girl), but it seems like rock writers were in running competition to see who could top the other.
Maybe they should have just written what you wrote, The Strokes could have been a lost CBGB's-era punk band. Strikes me as reasonable.
