Pink Floyd - Live At Guild Hall - 01-23-72

Label: Bootleg
Year: 1972

Alright, I understand that a Pink Floyd bootleg is not our normal fair, nor is it ostensibly what you come hear looking for, but I post it for two reasons; one, I think it serves as a nice counterpoint to the Pussy Galore post from earlier today, and two, it is a great concert showcasing some of the band's best material. There.
I believe it was John Lydon who claimed to wear a "Pink Floyd Sucks" shirt whilst terrorizing the citizenry of Olde London Towne back in the mid 70's as he claimed (and I paraphrase), Pink Floyd represented all that was overblown, overwrought, and generally wrong with popular music at that time, and therefore, by attacking the symbol of English progressive rock you were striking a blow for the common "lad" and ushering in the nascent punk scene. Makes some sense I guess, except that Pink Floyd were scantly bothered by Mr. Lydon or his punk cohorts, and they merrily went about crafting their epic, regal, cinematic, and sprawling songs. I have to say, Pink Floyd is a far better band than the Sex Pistols ever had hoped to be. Sorry, but it's true, and don't even get me going on the atrocities of Public Image Limited...the worst.
So anyway, if you thought the Pussy Galore entry was amateurish and noise for the sake of noise, then try some Pink Floyd to cleanse your palette. There isn't a noise out of place on this one (which you might be able to say the same about Pussy Galore, although they would never admit it), and the songs are treated luxuriously in this live setting, the band is spot on.
I love it. You may love it too. Or you may love me, and hate the music. Either way, it's a win/win for me. Somehow.

  1. yeah that did balance out the pussyhead post !!
but i don't like the part where you suggest that loving you and hating the music are mutually exclusive. that's not funny and neither is your lame ass self referencing wit. nothing personal, why don't you just post shit and shut up ? you sound like a nerd constantly finding ways to call yourself a prodigy or say something about how cool you are. obviously your not that cool, because cool people usually have something worthwhile to say. unless thats supposed to be ironic, because you already know your a loser. in which case, that's even more lame that a loser is trying to draw attention to themselves like that. it would be more entertaining if you just said " i suck " every couple of lines. all in all, dude, you get on my nerves. thanks for posting good music sometimes but i think this blog would be better if you just linked each post to the corresponding wiki entry or something.

  4. You guys sure got some great music posted here, thanks for all of it - even the stuff I don't download. I love your descriptions & stories & I think it's really funny how pissed off some of these douche bags get about them.

People who post anonymous, hateful comments on the internet have got to be the biggest pussies on the face of the earth

  5. That guys' syntax looks familiar. Lately there seems to be a spate of similarly situated morons running amok and disseminating negativity. He wants cake, but his mama never taught him to be gracious about things given instead of earned, to which I reply "go bake yer own, fuckwit.

To be fair, however, at least he reads.

By the way, thanks for the Milkmine a couple wks ago. Had that record over a decade ago, nice to have it back. Looking for the Chokebore album "A Taste For Bitters" if you've got it. Thanks.

  6. nothing that happens on the internet can be the biggest anything on the earth, im not pissed, rambo, i just think the self referencing wit is an annoying quality. whats wrong with being anonymous? for fucks sake YOUR name is RABMO.

  7. im sorry is there a rule that comments are for supportive or ass kissing purposes only ? does talking shit make me negative? thats strange because, i feel great when expressing myself ! whats this about cake?
gracious? earning vs. given ? i already have all this music I bought it all 10-20 years ago. although it is nice to have it all as MP3,. and I thank you ! thank you ! You've gotta realize, when you make a blog it is subject to criticism just as any form of public entertainment is. If you only want people around who support you 100 %, then keep the conversation in the garage with your friends.

  10. alright, alright, let's just everyone simmer down a bit okay?
all criticisms are welcome here, that's the point of the comments, if you want to say i'm a nerd, go for it, it's obviously not a closely guarded secret. but, that being said, i'm not going to just post things with a "corresponding wiki entry", that would be ridiculous. if you want to read the text with the posts, be my guest, if you don't...oh well. there's a lot of internet out there fellas, and if you aren't partial to this particular corner, you can kindly move along. no skin off my back, this isn't a job or anything, it's just a little labor of love if you know what i mean.

again, you can feel free to post whatever you want in the comments, pro-me, or anti-me, i enjoy hearing from readers either way. because in the end, isn't it all about me? anonymous dude? me? self reference after self reference? 1st person?

    pax romana.

  14. wow! this is easily the greatest comment i have ever seen. you can actually hear the frustration in the wildly pecked response, "like music...but hate...to...READ!".

  15. When one wants to say "you are," and one is in dire need of time and therefore needs to make use of a contraction, one says "you're."

When one needs to identify some object as being possessed by some other, and this other is being addressed in the 2nd person, one says "your."

When one has trouble identifying a date, the general rule is to identify such by ten-year periods, as in "10-20 years ago." As, for example, "A girl last spoke to me of her own free will approximately ten to twenty years ago."

When one desires recourse to a pronoun, and said pronoun requires a conjugation of the verb "to be," one solution is to use the conjunction "it's." However, when one speaks of something, and said something is in pronoun form, and said something possesses something, one says "its."

And, of course, when one is a complete douchebag one posts as "anonymous."

  16. didnt i already make this clear? WHY THE FUCK shouldnt i post anonymously when people have FUCKING names like FUCKING IPECAC AND RIMJOB OR RAMBO or whatever the FUCK. I have every good reason to post anonymously. MAYBE I DONT WANT A RETARDED ALIAS. anyway there is no FUCKING DIFFERENCE between having a little alias and being anonymous. do you FUCKING get it, YET? ITS THE FUCKING WEB. ITs not like we are all in a room, and I think I am being clever by wearing a mask when you all know who I really am. None of us are ever going to meet in real life so it really doesn't FUCKING matter " who " I am. YOU FUCKING IDIOTS.

By the way, I didn't even bother reading the above comment, within the first two sentences I got bored. Lectures don't make you sound smart, they make you sound gay.

Douchbag, as a term and insult is so fucking played out. So is shitbag. Bag of anything really ....
MY DICK IS HUGE AND YOU EJACULATE CORPSE SNOT, fuck you, HO.

    ReplyDelete
  17. P.S. FUCK YOU, you're a bitch ass cheerleader with a grammer lesson. the smartest people I know can't even spell. Technicalitys got nothin on real information. Any N-I-G-G-E-R will tell you that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. lastly, the above anonymous who said your writing is gay, reading is hard but music is good, is not the same anonymous as me, so, there are several nobodys who think your a homo, bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  19. here is this better? look i have a " name " now. did that change anything? NO. your still gay.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The smartest people "you" know must be true geniuses.

The issue with anonymity in blogspot blogs is not so much about having a proper name -- who does? -- as having an account (hear "accountability"). You know, having a history either of having a blog or of commenting on blogs, in other words constructing some kind of identity within what otherwise, admittedly, is an anonymous space.

And I don't think criticism is what has been objected to here. It's not about sensitivity to reasonably stated critique of the substance of blog posts, but the filth & bile folks can get away with directing at others on a "personal" level.

Ah, but I suppose you're having fun. If Gray & Ipecac are enjoying the banter what the hell, right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. it is fun. i disagree about the accountability requirement. Does having a history make my commentary any less valuable and/or useless? Thats like saying only people with faces and names can make a difference. If that were true, real world history would be a different story. Lots of unknown people affect change and continue to ... plus, there is no higher order to answer to, ex: if I were a student in the school of shinygreymonotone then all my commentary would accrue and when i graduate the stock would follow me and be representative of my work. But in this situation, there is no end, there is no place to arrive at, its just conversation, ideas for the sake of ideas, talking shit for the sake of HOLY FUCK I NEED TO TELL THESE PEOPLE OFF... I do agree that this has, especially now, gone way beyond the mark of criticism, at this point my point is fuck you and for some reason, these guys have taken the OH IT TICKLES ME attitude and chosen to amplify my voice to show their readers that Mr. Anonymous can't be taken seriously. They think it takes power away from me because it shows that they can roll with this, sadly, It really exposes their insecurity and lack of dedication to quality. Oh well, thats old news ! Also about the whole anonymous thing, you made a point that people need to be accountable by developing a history attached to an ALIAS, but you know you would never have written that to someone posting positive feedback anonymously. That makes your argument one of convenience, therefore, it lacks truth.

    ReplyDelete
  22. the anonymous posts do genuinely "tickle me", that is 100% true. i hope you stick around and continue with your tirades, because, like you, i enjoy the shit talking, it's a welcome diversion in what can be a very boring day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. one last thing, since i found your commentary thought provoking, 1009 ... maybe you will agree that : there are 2 distinct issues, and we could pose the question as:
is it more important that a person is heard and can contribute or is it more important that a person maintains a userface allowing them to integrate into a social construct ( in this case a blog ) on the same level as other users? And the answer is, neither is more important and the answer is also, its optional and up to the user, which is why they offer the option of being anonymous or to be an established blogger, right ? because my values are different than yours, right? i only care about being heard and hearing others, i assume anyone who is contributing is on my level because they are able to contribute just as much as me regardless of who they are. for me, the point is I AM HEARD or I HEAR OTHERS. No, that doesn't account for respect, which is a whole other issue, and in no way do I mean to imply that by participating I intend to be diplomatic. And for you, right??... your value is that a person should be identified within the group in order to be equal to any other member. right? so remember that the next time you read anonymous positive feedback. that person doesnt count, or it a coward too. unless of course, maintaining an identity is only valuable when your talking shit. if this is true ( and im not saying it is ) then can we deduce that all identity is there only for the purpose darwin, evolution by means of destruction? because that is the essence of said, shit talking. we cast aside the diplomacy of formal criticism and engage in head on destruction but like most attempts at revolution, we fail. still we talk shit, and with fever, revolution for the hell of it. style wars.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i think the only problem with maintaining an anonymous identity when posting is that anyone can then jump into an exchange to dilute the original "conversation" with another anonymous identity. you never can be sure who you're talking to.

that's not being diplomatic or fascist, it's simply a courtesy when engaging someone in debate, internet or not.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1009.....the only reason i have a name is so i can be destroyed or destroy. right ? and if choose to do either namelessly then ... what ? it doesn't add up, does it ?

    ReplyDelete
  26. grey ... what if i dont care whose talking to me or who i am talking to? why do you care? im in it for the ideas. for the conversation. it doesnt matter who the source is. it matters what the outcome is. where the information takes us, collectively.

    ReplyDelete
  27. funny i dont feel any sort of extra courtesy knowing your name is grey. if its for organizational purposes, like knowing who is saying what, then we might as well have numbers. plus there is the whole privacy thing. like, does that mean maintaining privacy is discourteous to other people. is this a nudist colony?

    ReplyDelete
  28. i find it odd that you claim to only care about this utopian free exchange of ideas no matter the source, then go on to say "(i'm in it) for the conversation". so then a conversation is a collection of random disembodied voices shouting into a vacuum?

and yes, knowing names is exactly for organizational purposes, so assigning numbers would work out just fine now wouldn't they?

if you're concerned about privacy, which i can't imagine you actually are, then you might reconsider entering into debate in a (semi)public forum. just a thought.

to your other point, about maintaining privacy versus courtesy, the answer is yes in this case. within the context of a conversation privacy is not a courteous virtue. i mean, i'm sure you're a very important person who can't give a clue as to their identity, but speaking to another human being inevitably requires some degree of formality...internet or no internet.

and my name is not "grey", it is g-r-a-y...like "gay" but add the "r". get it?
