i was rummaging around in the crap on the floorboard on the passenger side in my friend's car the other day and came across this

i put this together for him a couple years back

when i brought the fact that i'd found this tossed all haphazardly among the garbage in his car...all he could say was "ohhhh...so that's where it was"

and continuing on with the recent rash of non SGM related material....

the posting of both the postman syndrome and yakuza (namely because there's a combo of songs on their 2007 album PRECAMBRIAN that i like to call "the best yakuza song that yakuza didn't write"...and that combo would be "siderian/rhyacian") albums got me to thinking about this album

"why didn't you just post that album instead of this one?"

well...it's a double album...so i figured that you should be started out with something a little less double album-y

this is heavier than both of them combined (the above mentioned postman syndrome and yakuza albums)

but you shouldn't let that scare you off,kids

what you get here is some sludgyexperimentalmetal

the ocean are a "musical collective" from germany...and there are 11 members...with 7 different vocalists on this particular album (coalesce's sean ingram/converge's nate newton/breach's tomas hallbom among them)

so...has anything i've written done anything for you?

what about the melvins t-shirt i'm currently wearing?

or is that episode of HE-MAN currently on the tv more important? (just so you know...he-man and prince adam are the same person...BOOM!)

my posting of the postman syndrome album down yonder made me think of this album

and now you can have it as well

i once saw these chicago-ites play the house of blues in new orleans...they opened the show...the other bands on the bill were lacuna coil and opeth...

lacuna coil=bleh
opeth=nap time

and that will be more than likely the only time you'll ever see those bands mentioned here

the other bands should've really opened for this band

what you get here is some jazzy metal...

metal because it's metal

jazzy because there's some skronky sax-o-mo-phone involved (think john zorn...but not as extreme as naked city or painkiller)

you'd find this in the "avant garde" section of your local music store ("music store? what's that?")

do i really need to say more about this?

simply put...

this is what tool would sound like if they stopped taking themselves so seriously and listened to more king crimson 

some of you may be saying "tool? king crimson? whaaaaat?"

and some of you may be saying "um...tool already sounds enough like king crimson! helllloooo!"

need more to go on?

i'll use some words i've heard elsewhere:

"they go from the foo fighters to the dillinger escape plan to sepultura...but all in the same song"

also...they have a song called "amputees make bad swimmers"

but they do make a pretty sweet flotation device 

this was the band's only album (well...unless you count the previously unreleased second album that got released after the band had split up that goes by the name of GOD RELIEVE OUR GRIEF: A MAUSOLEUM OF STILLBORN DEMOS...which was released back in 2010)

after the band split up...members went onto play in the bands east of the wall and biclops and day without dawn (which are all essentially the same band)

well...after successfully testing the waters with some brutal  truth...

i present you with some human remains (and it's not even your birthday)

the first time i'd heard this band....it was via a sampler from relapse records

and that song was "weeding out the thorns"

it was the drums that got me hooked....some guy named dave witte....and he's played with a few bands you may or may not have heard of (bands with names like: black army jacket/melt banana/anodyne/birds of prey/discordance axis/burnt by the sun/municipal waste)

ah....dave witte...he who can do a one legged blast beat (hey,children of the corn...can your he who walks behind the rows do that?...i didn't think so)

moving on...

sadly...this is really the band's only release...i mean...yeah...they released a few demos and eps before this...and then there was the post-split up (they split up back in 1996) compilation called WHERE WERE YOU WHEN...but this is all you really need

after the split up...the band's bassist went onto play in burnt by the sun with mr. witte...their guitarist went onto play in deadguy (the post-tim singer version)...and their singer went onto play guitar in burnt by the sun for a short time (on their SELF-TITLED EP)...and the band's other guitarist went onto play is discordance axis and the post-discordance axis band gridlink

and now you know all of that

if'n you're a fan of bands like rorschach or deadguy or any of the other above mentioned bands...i think you know what to do....
