So awesome.
If there's any band...SHRIMP BOAT!

So awesome.

If there's any band out there today that's carrying on in Shrimp Boat's tradition, it's Born Ruffians.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705089269270410469.post-89229960208154388672010-02-19T13:19:35.450-06:002010-02-19T13:19:35.450-06:00I feel the need to defend Karate. Lots of angst.STJnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705089269270410469.post-50535429494887507742010-02-17T15:26:08.530-06:002010-02-17T15:26:08.530-06:00I'm a big fan of the first Sea and Cake album,...I'm a big fan of the first Sea and Cake album, and this album is like hearing a prelude to that one. Of course the guitar and drums are a bit amateur, but you can't compete when John McEntire and Archer Prewitt take over your duties in the next band. I like that Sam Prekop's vocal style has that almost Black Francis/Jonathan Richman quirkiness of the first S&K album, before he started his whispered crooning that is all over their later albums. I like this vocal style much better.

Shrimp Boat also has that late 80's midwestern jangle present in bands like Great Plains, etc. Reminds me of something that would have been on Homestead.James Joycehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12716336694530802193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705089269270410469.post-2537151414256330522010-02-17T01:57:00.933-06:002010-02-17T01:57:00.933-06:00i know what you mean about Karate. so smooth, and ...i know what you mean about Karate. so smooth, and yet i shouldn't be enjoying this!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705089269270410469.post-55762178222846341002010-02-16T08:11:38.239-06:002010-02-16T08:11:38.239-06:00Man - I never thought I would find Shrimp Boat pos...Man - I never thought I would find Shrimp Boat posted on this blog. I always thought of this as Sam Prekop's "college band", but I'll give it another shot. I don't think I ever heard this particular album.James Joycehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12716336694530802193noreply@blogger.com
